At the 57th Annual Meeting of the American College of Cardiology (ACC 2008) in Chicago, from March 29 to April 1, Siemens Medical showcased its most advanced echocardiography technology at booth #3006. Among the highlights was the newly launched ACUSON X300 PE color Doppler ultrasound system, designed with user-friendliness and professional diagnostic capabilities in mind. This system offers a wide range of cardiac imaging and analysis functions, including advanced cardiac function measurement tools such as myocardial motion mechanics evaluation.
A key feature of the ACUSON X300 PE is the syngo VVI speed vector imaging technology, which has already proven its value in Siemens' high-end systems like the ACUSON Sequoia. Two presentations at ACC 2008 focused on the latest research using VVI, highlighting its clinical significance. One study led by Dr. Scott D. Solomon from Harvard Medical School’s Brigham Women’s Hospital evaluated the use of VVI in a large-scale trial involving 14,700 patients with acute myocardial infarction who were treated with valsartan (VALIANT study). The results showed that VVI provided more accurate assessments of myocardial strain and strain rate compared to traditional left ventricular function evaluations, especially in high-risk patients.
Dr. Solomon emphasized the versatility of the syngo VVI platform, stating, “Siemens gives us an open software environment that allows us to apply VVI across over 100 clinical institutions in 14 countries, even for other vendors’ equipment. Images acquired on various ultrasound systems can also be analyzed using VVI.†Another presentation at ACC discussed the use of syngo VVI to assess ventricular synchrony after myocardial infarction in patients with left ventricular dysfunction or heart failure.
Beyond VVI, the ACUSON X300 PE includes syngo Auto Left Heart, an intelligent system that automatically measures left ventricular ejection fraction and volumes. Additional features include left ventricular contrast echo (LVO), transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and intracardiac echocardiography, supported by Siemens’ unique ACUSON AcuNav catheter. These innovations ensure comprehensive cardiac care and support clinicians in delivering precise and efficient diagnoses.
