**Bailing Mushroom Production Assistant**
Bailing Mushroom, also known as Bai Ling Pleurotus, is a unique and highly valued edible fungus. Its fruiting body is white in color, with thick, tender flesh that is crisp and delicious. This mushroom is not only rich in nutrition but also has significant medicinal and economic value. In recent years, it has gained popularity in northern China due to its fast-growing potential and market demand. However, many farmers face challenges when cultivating Bailing Mushrooms using traditional material fermentation methods. A lack of experience and poor technical skills often lead to low yields and reduced profitability, which can discourage growers from continuing this promising venture.
To improve the efficiency of Bailing Mushroom cultivation, using corn cobs and sawdust as the main substrates is an effective approach. The following are detailed steps for preparing and fermenting the materials:
1. **Recipe Formulation**
- **Formula 1**: Corn cob (80%), rice bran (12%), corn flour (4%), gypsum (1%), calcium superphosphate (1%), lime (2%).
- **Formula 2**: Corn cob (50%), hardwood sawdust (30%), rice bran (10%), corn flour (6%), gypsum (1%), calcium superphosphate (1%), lime (2%).
- **Addition**: For each 1 kg of dry material, add 10 ml of Kinpo Edible Fungi Fermentation Aid to speed up the fermentation process and enhance the quality of the substrate, ultimately promoting better growth and yield of the Bailing Mushroom.
2. **Preparation and Fermentation Process**
Choose clean, mold-free corn cobs and crush them into small pieces. Weigh the required raw materials according to the chosen formula, mix them thoroughly, and then add water until the moisture content reaches about 65%. To test the moisture level, squeeze a handful of the mixture—if it holds together without dripping, it’s just right.
Once mixed, pile the materials into stacks approximately 1–1.2 meters high and 1.5 meters wide, with no restrictions on length. Drill ventilation holes through the pile using a 5 cm diameter tool, spacing them about 40 cm apart and reaching the bottom of the pile. Cover the pile with plastic sheets or straw curtains to maintain temperature and humidity.
When the internal temperature of the pile rises to 60–70°C, it’s time to turn the pile over. Repeat this process 3–4 times, ensuring even fermentation. The fermentation is complete when the material turns brown, becomes soft and flexible, and emits a pleasant, earthy aroma. At this stage, the substrate is ready for bagging and inoculation.
