Tilapia seed breeding method

Tilapia larvae are initially reared from freshly hatched eggs and primarily feed on rotifers. As they grow, their diet gradually shifts to include cladocerans, copepods, along with small amounts of organic detritus, algae, and protozoa. In addition, artificial feeds are introduced as the larvae develop. During this transition, the frequency of zooplankton in their digestive tracts decreases, while the intake of artificial feed, organic debris, and algae increases. In seedling breeding, live food is essential for promoting healthy growth, especially for cultivating zooplankton such as rotifers. To support this, farmers often supplement the environment by adding soy milk or feeding egg yolk to enhance plankton production. When using artificial feed, it's recommended to provide "whole egg feed" to the larvae, which can be more nutritious and easier for them to digest. However, relying on natural plankton remains the most cost-effective and efficient method for raising tilapia seedlings. Tilapia are known for their strong appetite and high feeding frequency. Compared to other fish species, they may eat 4 to 6 times more frequently per day, making it crucial to ensure a constant and adequate supply of food during the early stages of development. This frequent feeding behavior helps them grow quickly and efficiently, but also requires careful management to avoid overfeeding or nutrient imbalances.
