In recent years, the threat posed by ground pests, particularly those affecting peanut fields such as field ridges, has become increasingly severe. These pests have now become a major challenge in boosting peanut yields. Given the current patterns and damage characteristics of these pests, it's essential to follow an integrated approach that emphasizes agricultural control methods, with a focus on managing larvae. This includes implementing multiple strategies, conducting comprehensive pest management, and applying pesticides at the right time to effectively reduce the harm caused by groundnut locusts.
Field experience has shown that using Fumeidan’s carbofuran at a rate of 2 to 4 kg per mu, applied once or twice every quarter, is an effective strategy for preventing peanut pests. Carbofuran is a highly efficient broad-spectrum insecticide and nematicide. It offers excellent overall pest control, has a long-lasting effect, is easy to apply, and significantly increases yield—typically by around 20%.
During the sowing stage, carbofuran can be applied directly into the planting furrow or seed hole, either by drenching, spot application, or mixing with seeds. The recommended dosage is about 2.3 kg per mu. During the flowering period, it should be mixed evenly with fertilizer and applied around the base of the peanut plants or near the roots, then covered with soil and watered. The application rate at this stage is 3 to 4 kg per acre.
When using carbofuran, it's important to note that both spring and summer peanuts require two applications: one during sowing and another during flowering. The sowing application helps protect young plants, promote strong growth, and encourage early development. The flowering application focuses on protecting the developing fruits, ensuring they grow well and increasing overall yield.
Whenever carbofuran is used, it must be thoroughly mixed with the soil to maximize its effectiveness and ensure prolonged efficacy. If root-knot nematodes are present, the dosage should be increased accordingly. Carbofuran should be stored in a place inaccessible to children, and care must be taken not to soak or spray it with water during application.
