“Okay, let’s go,†I said, blowing a kiss behind me as I watched my precious little girl, now more of a toddler, bounce ahead into the next room. She was already singing and dancing, happy to be at her grandparents’ house. It was always a relief to know she was safe and having fun while we enjoyed some time out.
I was already dressed and ready for the night, in a dress that balanced comfort with a touch of elegance. My makeup and hair were done just right—extra eyeshadow for a little extra flair. I was heading into a room full of models, so I thought a little extra effort wouldn’t hurt. Christopher walked out of the back room looking perfect. His white shirt was rolled up just enough to show his forearms, his tie loosely tied with a wide knot, peeking out from under a sleek black sweater. The look was effortlessly stylish, and we were ready to go.
The city was bathed in darkness, the sun long gone, replaced by the glow of street lamps and buildings. We arrived at our destination and had to double-check—this was a vintage library, standing tall and proud, with limousines lined up outside and banners hanging high above the entrance. This was the place we were meant to be.
It was a book signing and art exhibit for my agent, taking people on a “joyride through auto show history.†We were excited to be part of it, especially since I’m currently involved in the auto show industry.
As we made our way through the building, we passed a series of doors that looked intriguing. I wanted to explore them, but for now, I focused on the main event. The large domed room was packed with people, buzzing with conversation and laughter. We met old friends and made new ones. Drinks and appetizers circulated, and the press snapped photos as we chatted with my agent and explored the art exhibit. I quickly grabbed a copy of the new book and got it signed with a special message inside just for me.
Once we finished the main exhibit, we returned to one of the rooms we had passed earlier. It was guarded by an old wooden door with a glass panel in the center. The letters were faded, but the soft green light glowing through the glass drew us in.
It felt like stepping back in time. The room stretched long and rectangular, filled with books lining every wall from floor to ceiling. An older man in elegant clothing smiled at us from across the room. In the center, sturdy wooden tables held lamps that cast a warm, soft glow. It was a quiet, magical space.
If you know our family, you know how much we love books. This place was like a treasure trove for us. We wandered through, examining everything. My favorite was an oversized book on one of the tables, filled with detailed drawings and blueprints of our city dating all the way back to 1800. It was beautiful and full of history.
Christopher slowly wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me close. I didn’t want to move. When he let go, his strong hand found mine, and we headed back out into the night…
