“Okay, let’s go,†I said, blowing a kiss behind me as I watched my little girl bounce ahead. She was no longer a baby—she was a curious toddler who loved exploring, especially at her grandparents’ house. It made our nights out so much easier, knowing she was safe and having fun with them.
I was already dressed and ready for the evening. My outfit was all about comfort, but I still wanted to look nice. A little extra eyeshadow added some flair, and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to stand out in a room full of models. Christopher walked out of the back room looking like a dream. His crisp white shirt was rolled up just enough to show off his arms, and his tie hung loosely around his neck, tied with a wide knot. He wore a black sweater that hugged his chest perfectly, giving him that effortlessly stylish look. We were ready to go.
The city was bathed in darkness, with only the glow of street lamps and buildings lighting the way. When we arrived at our destination, I had to double-check the address. It was a vintage library, old and elegant, with limousines lined up outside and banners hanging high above the entrance. This was the place we were meant to be.
It was a book signing and art exhibit for my agent, who was taking people on a “joyride through auto show history.†I was excited to be part of this event, since I work in the auto show industry. The atmosphere was lively, with people chatting, laughing, and enjoying the evening. We met old friends and made new ones, sipped drinks, and nibbled on hors d’oeuvres while photographers snapped pictures.
As we walked through the building, we passed a series of mysterious doors. They looked intriguing, but I decided to come back later. We eventually reached the large, domed room where the event was held. It was packed with guests, and the air buzzed with conversation and laughter. I grabbed a copy of the new book and got it signed, with a personal note inside just for me.
After that, we found one of the rooms we had seen earlier. It was behind an old wooden door with a glass panel in the center. The letters were faded, and a soft green light glowed through the glass as we approached. It felt like stepping into another time.
The room stretched long and narrow, filled with towering bookshelves and a quiet, timeless energy. An older gentleman in fine clothes greeted us with a warm smile. At the center of the room stood sturdy wooden tables, each topped with a lamp that cast a gentle, golden glow. It was like walking into a storybook.
Our family has always loved books, and this place felt like a treasure trove. We wandered through the shelves, browsing and examining everything. My favorite find was a large, beautifully illustrated book filled with blueprints and drawings of our city dating back to the 1800s. It was stunning and full of history.
Christopher slowly wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close. I didn’t want to move. When he let go, he took my hand and led me back out into the night, where the city lights shimmered under the stars.
