Pig fattening techniques have evolved significantly, offering farmers effective and practical methods to enhance growth rates and reduce feed costs. One such method involves using pig blood for fattening. Fresh blood from healthy or freshly slaughtered pigs is collected, and 5 ml of antimony sodium is added per 100 ml of blood to prevent clotting. The mixture should be stored at temperatures between 2°C and 10°C. Administering 2 kg of this blood per kilogram of the pig’s body weight every seven days can accelerate growth, especially in undernourished or stiff pigs that struggle to gain weight.
Another technique is brushing the pig's body with a bristled brush for 10–20 minutes daily. This simple practice, when combined with standard feeding and management, can increase weight gain by 7.2% to 11.4%. It not only improves circulation but also stimulates the pig’s appetite and overall well-being.
Lysine supplementation is another proven strategy. Adding 1 to 3 kg of lysine per ton of feed can boost daily weight gain by 15% to 25% while reducing feed consumption by 15% to 20%. This amino acid plays a crucial role in protein synthesis, making it an essential addition to pig diets.
For smaller pigs, powdered fertilizer like lotus root can be used. Pigs weighing less than 25 kg receive 10 grams per day, those over 25 kg get 25 grams, and pigs over 50 kg are given 50 grams. This helps support digestion and nutrient absorption, contributing to better growth outcomes.
Fermented blood meal is another effective supplement. Adding 3% to 10% of fermented blood meal to the diet can lead to pigs reaching 100 kg or more within 73 days, while reducing feed costs by approximately 20%. This method not only improves feed efficiency but also enhances meat quality.
Egg white injections are another unique approach. Injecting 5–10 ml of fresh egg white into the thyroid or submandibular glands of 50 kg live pigs, using acupuncture points, can encourage pigs to rest more and move less, indicating successful administration. Repeating the injection every 5–7 days with a doubled dose, followed by feeding easily digestible, nutrient-rich feed for two weeks to a month, can result in an additional 0.5 kg of weight gain on top of normal growth.
Olaquindox, also known as Yunnan, is a broad-spectrum antibacterial growth promoter. It increases daily weight gain by 10% to 15% and reduces feed costs by 8% to 10%. From 10 kg to 60 kg, each pig should receive a total of 8.3 grams of olaquindox. For every kilogram of olaquindox used, about 900 to 1,000 kg of feed can be saved. The recommended dosage is 5 grams per 100 kg of feed, which equates to 5/100,000.
Triacontanol, a plant-derived compound, is particularly effective for middle-weight pigs (40–50 kg), increasing average daily weight gain by 0.5–1.2 kg. Intramuscular injections of tetradecyl alcohol can boost daily gain by 24% to 35%. The method involves dissolving 25 grams of triacontanol powder (80% concentration) in 500 ml of distilled water, sterilizing it, and injecting 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight every 25 days. The injection should be stopped four weeks before slaughter.
These methods, when applied correctly, can significantly improve pig performance, reduce costs, and ensure healthier, more productive livestock. Farmers are encouraged to tailor these techniques based on their specific conditions and pig breeds for optimal results.
