In spring, as the weather gradually warms up, it's an ideal time for pig farming. However, this season is also marked by unpredictable weather and the rapid multiplication of pathogens. Preventing infectious diseases such as swine fever, erysipelas, pleuropneumonia, foot-and-mouth disease, and blue ear disease is critical. Farmers should strictly follow vaccination schedules to avoid vaccine failure or missed doses. In case of an outbreak, strict disinfection, enhanced immunization, and proper disposal of dead pigs are necessary. If an epidemic occurs nearby, access to the farm should be restricted to authorized personnel only, and vehicles must be prohibited from entering. Nutritional management is also key. Feed formulas should be adjusted according to the different growth stages of the pigs, ensuring they receive balanced diets. During spring, fresh green feed is limited, so adding carrots and other juicy feeds or by-products can improve appetite and provide essential vitamins. Spring weather changes can be challenging for pigs. Even small mistakes in feeding or management can lead to illness or even death. Therefore, special attention should be given to sows—keeping their udders clean and hygienic, managing feeding routines carefully, and supporting them through farrowing, weaning, and post-weaning periods. Preventive measures like vaccinating sows during the second trimester and maintaining good hygiene can help reduce the risk of swine dysentery. Encouraging more outdoor activity and sunlight exposure can also support pig growth and overall health. In addition, traditional Chinese medicine can be used to enhance disease resistance. Adding herbs like Nepeta, windproof, forsythia, silver flower, large clear leaves, ephedra, apricot kernel, and licorice into the feed can help strengthen immunity and improve respiratory health. These ingredients can be ground into a fine powder and mixed into the feed. Each pig should receive 10 to 20 grams per dose, twice daily, every 10 to 20 days. This natural approach supports long-term health and helps pigs thrive throughout the spring season.
