Adjusting the adjuster technology on the tractor

1. Adjusting the closure. First, set the gap between the contacts when they are open to 0.7–0.9 mm. Disconnect the wires from the battery and armature terminals on the regulator. Then, use the battery wire to create a spark at the armature terminal, allowing the battery to power the choke's movable arm. When a spark occurs, loosen the shut-off spring so that the magnetized core pulls down the movable arm. Then, tighten the spring while sparking until it just can't pull the arm anymore. This indicates that the shut-off spring is properly adjusted for 12V. Next, fine-tune the spring slightly to achieve a small increase in the closing voltage. After adjusting the closing voltage, reconnect the previously removed battery and armature wires, and start the engine for testing. When the idle current meter needle moves slightly in the discharge direction, then shifts toward the charging direction as the speed increases, and when the speed is slowly reduced to a certain point, the needle swings back to discharge and returns to zero—this maximum reverse swing indicates the reverse current value. This value should meet the required specifications.

2. Adjusting the current limiter. Place the battery in a partially discharged state (if sufficient power is available, start the generator 2–3 times using an electric starter). Insert a wooden block between the active arm and the core of the voltage regulator to close the contact, effectively disabling the voltage regulation function. Then, increase the engine speed to a medium level, and the current meter needle should show about three-quarters of the specified current value. Continue increasing the speed; the ammeter reading should no longer rise, and a faint spark may appear between the current limiter contacts. This is considered normal.

3. Adjusting the regulator. Insert a small piece of wood between the moving arm of the current limiter and the iron core to close the contact. Operate the generator at a medium speed and adjust the spring tension to regulate the generator's terminal voltage. If the battery is low, the ammeter should indicate approximately 12A (indicating a weak charge). If the battery is fully charged, the ammeter should read around 8A, and the generator's terminal voltage should be close to the standard value. This ensures the regulator is functioning correctly under different battery conditions.
