I. Taishan Early Summer Apple
Origin: This variety was developed through seed selection. It was first identified by Shandong Agricultural University in 1994 from a group of apple seedlings.
Features: The fruit is cone-shaped with a high, prominent calyx end, giving it a fruit shape index of 0.93. On average, each apple weighs 138.6 grams—about 48 grams more than the control variety, Liao Fu. The skin is smooth, pale yellow with a red blush, and displays a bright red color. The flesh is white, juicy, and has a soluble solids content of 12.8%, which is 2.8 percentage points higher than the control. The sugar-to-acid ratio is 21.2, offering a balanced sweet and sour flavor with a pleasant aroma. The fruit development period lasts between 70 to 75 days, and it matures around June 25 in the Taian area, about 2 to 3 days later than the control variety.
II. Number 3
Origin: This variety was selected from a bud mutation of the common Gala apple. It was developed by the Yantai Fruit Tree Work Station in 1997.
Features: The fruit is oval in shape, with a fruit shape index ranging from 0.85 to 0.87. It is medium-sized, with an average single fruit weight of 180 to 210 grams. The surface is clean, with a strong red color, and 51% of the fruits are fully red. The coloring index reaches 82.1%, which is approximately 30% higher than that of the control variety, Royal Gala. The flesh is milky white, crisp, and juicy, with a firmness of 6.70 kg/cm². It contains 12.2% soluble solids, and its flavor quality surpasses that of the control. The fruit takes between 110 to 120 days to develop and typically matures in the Yantai area from late August to early September.
This variety is particularly favored for its excellent appearance, flavor, and adaptability, making it a promising option for commercial cultivation in the region.
