Nylon is encircled by a nylon net that sits 30 cm above the water surface. The net is tightly secured with wire and buried 20 cm into the soil at the bottom of the pond.
Before stocking loaches, Qingtang fertilizer is applied. About 10 to 15 days prior to introducing the loaches, 75 kilograms of lime are spread dry across each acre of the pond. After seven days, clean fresh water is introduced into the pond. Once the water is in place, 75 kg of chicken manure per acre is added as a base fertilizer to promote plankton growth, which serves as natural feed for the loaches. The water clarity is maintained at approximately 20 cm, with a yellow-green color indicating healthy conditions.
For seed stocking, around mid-June, after one month of preparation, about 1,500 kg of seedlings are introduced per acre. These seedlings are purchased from the market and vary in size, typically around 160 per kilogram.
Feeding begins in late June and continues through early August. Each day, 3-4% of the loach’s body weight is fed in the form of expanded pellet feed. Feeding occurs twice daily—at 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Occasionally, depending on how much the loaches consume, an additional feeding may be given at 3:00 AM. The first feeding amounts to 2% of their body weight, while the second and third feedings are 1% each. From late August to late September, the daily feeding rate is 2%, divided into two equal portions. When temperatures drop below 15°C, the loaches are fed twice a day, with each feeding amounting to 0.5% of their body weight.
Water quality management is crucial. The water transparency is kept at 30 cm, with dissolved oxygen levels above 3.5 mg/L and a pH between 7.6 and 8.8. During high temperatures (33–37°C), water is changed between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. In spring and autumn, half the water volume is replaced regularly. Water changes occur every morning at 6:00 AM and again at 10:00 AM. Every 20 days, 20 grams of quicklime pulp is sprinkled per cubic meter of water. Additionally, bleaching powder is used to disinfect the feeding area once every 15 days.
Harvesting takes place before and after October. Loaches are caught using cages, with most being collected during water capture operations.
