Seed soaking in carrot seeds is high

Carrot seeds have a natural layer of fine hairs on their surface, which makes them difficult to handle and results in slow and uneven germination when sown using traditional methods. Through years of trial and error, farmers in Luancheng County discovered that soaking the seeds in a 25% hydrogen peroxide solution significantly improves germination rates. This method has since become widely adopted in local carrot farming. To prepare, the seeds are first rubbed to remove the bristles, then placed into a container filled with the hydrogen peroxide solution. They are gently stirred with a wooden stick for 30 to 50 minutes. After soaking, the seeds are rinsed thoroughly under running water 3 to 4 times to remove any residual hydrogen peroxide. The cleaned seeds are then placed in a container covered with a damp cloth and left to germinate. When properly treated, over 85% of the seeds will germinate within 7 to 8 days, and the seedlings can be transplanted into the field just 5 days after sowing. There are several important steps to follow during this process. First, it is best to soak the seeds on a sunny day to ensure optimal conditions. Second, after soaking, the seeds should be treated with a chlorothalonil solution to prevent fungal infections. Third, once the seeds have germinated, they must be sown promptly, ensuring the soil remains moist. Finally, after sowing, cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil (about 0.5 to 1 cm thick) and gently press it down. A shade cloth should be used to protect the seeds until about 10% to 15% of the seedlings emerge, at which point the cover can be removed. This improved method not only increases germination success but also helps produce stronger, more uniform seedlings, leading to better yields in the long run. It's a simple yet effective technique that has proven valuable for both small-scale and large-scale carrot growers.
