First, the cause of fruit cracking
Fruit cracking is often triggered by environmental stress during the later stages of fruit development. High temperatures, intense sunlight, and dry soil can lead to the skin of the fruit hardening prematurely. When a sudden increase in rainfall or moisture occurs, the pericarp (outer layer) and the inner pulp tissue grow at different rates, causing an imbalance in turgor pressure within the fruit. This pressure buildup ultimately leads to cracking. In summer, when heatwaves and droughts are common, heavy rain or flooding can significantly increase the risk of fruit cracking.Second, prevention measures
1. Choose varieties that are resistant to cracking and have dense foliage, such as Maofen 802, Zhongshu No. 6, Zhongza No. 9, 2402, and others. These varieties are better adapted to withstand environmental stress and reduce the likelihood of cracking. 2. Implement proper field management practices. Increase the use of organic fertilizers to improve soil structure and water retention. Water the plants regularly and maintain consistent moisture in the topsoil, especially during fruiting. Avoid overwatering or letting the soil become too dry before heavy rains. After rainfall, ensure that excess water is drained to prevent waterlogging. Prune the plants appropriately to maintain lush foliage, which helps protect the fruits from direct sunlight. Harvest the fruits before the rainy season or heavy rain to minimize damage. 3. Use drought and water retention agents. These products act as water reservoirs, absorbing and storing water when available and releasing it slowly when the soil dries out. This helps keep the root zone consistently moist, reducing the risk of cracking caused by sudden moisture fluctuations. 4. Bag the fruits early in their development. Using kraft paper or even apple bags, this practice protects the fruits from sunscald, rain, and pests. It also reduces the chance of cracking by maintaining a more stable microclimate around the fruit. 5. Apply a 0.1–0.3% calcium chloride solution during the growing season. This treatment strengthens the fruit's cell walls, enhancing its resistance to cracking under stressful conditions. By implementing these strategies, growers can effectively reduce fruit cracking, improve fruit quality, and increase overall yield.Gauze Swabs 10X10,Premier Gauze Swabs,Vaseline Gauze Swab,Non Sterile Gauze Swabs
