Canopy melon seedling selection

When selecting thin-skinned muskmelon varieties, it's essential to evaluate them from three key perspectives: first, examine their appearance, quality, and market demand; second, consider their yield potential, adaptability, and stress resistance; third, assess the environmental requirements and management level needed for successful cultivation. Based on your specific facilities, crop characteristics, and management capabilities, choose the most suitable variety and ensure proper seed mixing. Currently, there are two main categories of muskmelon varieties that have shown good performance in cultivation. The first is conventional varieties, which include Hongcheng No. 10, Hongcheng No. 15, Jingxiang No. 2, Fuershi No. 15, Yongtian No. 9, Yongtian No. 11, Yongtian No. 13, Shenghong No. 3, Komite No. 3, and Aerospace Times. These varieties are known for their sweet and crisp flesh, rich flavor, and high market value. However, they tend to be less resistant to environmental stresses such as drought or disease. On the other hand, hybrid varieties like Fengtian (Wind and Thunder), Top Sweet No. 1, Top Sweet No. 2, Arrogant Snow No. 5, Arrogant Snow No. 6, Shed Anti-518, and King Sweet offer better resilience to stress, making them more suitable for large-scale or commercial farming. Their flesh is slightly less brittle, with a thicker skin, and while the flavor may not be as intense as some conventional types, they offer good sweetness, excellent storage and transportation qualities, and superior commercial value. Choosing between conventional and hybrid varieties depends on your farming goals, available resources, and market preferences. Whether you prioritize flavor and quality or durability and efficiency, there’s a variety that can meet your needs. Always consider local growing conditions and your own management experience when making a final decision.
