Behavioral characteristics of meat rabbits

Animal behavior is an emerging fringe science that studies the relationship between animals and the environment and the interrelationships between individuals within a group. With the rapid development of China's rabbit breeding industry, its intensive and semi-intensive farming models have become more and more important. This requires theoretical and practical solutions to the problems of ethology and ecology that result from intensive rearing. At present, there is a lack of systematic research on rabbit behavior at home and abroad. Based on recent researches and references to relevant literature at home and abroad, this article tentatively elaborates on the behavior of rabbits and their feeding behaviors that are closely related to the production of rabbits. Rabbit production provides the basis. 1. Ingestion behavior The feeding behavior of meat rabbits is the basic condition for survival of rabbits, mainly including feeding, drinking, sucking, feeding, etc. (1) Feeding Behavior Meat rabbits have rodent behavior. When they do not feed, they often bite rabbit cages, farrowing boxes, and food troughs, which are hard edges, especially before feeding. When a rabbit feeds on grass, it is pulled one by one from the straw frame and eats the stem and root after eating it. Meat rabbits have an axillary habit. Forelimbs are often used to forage grasses or feedstuffs out of grass racks or food troughs, and some even overturn a food trough. Meat rabbits have obvious choices in terms of material type, texture, etc. They like to eat sweet and multi-leaf fresh green fodder, but prefer granules rather than powder. (2) Nursing behavior The sucking behavior of puppies is a special kind of eating behavior. After pups are born, they start looking for nipples and sucking milk. The puppies within 4 days of age are sleeping in addition to feeding, and the female rabbit jumps into the nest when breast-feeding. Inside, the awakening rabbit arches, the puppies wake up and look for the nipples. When sucking, they often assume a supine position and make a "click" noise. The hind legs are still moving to find the proper pivot point for sucking. There is no fixed nipple when the pups are sucking, but a nipple absorbs a few mouths and then changes one. Often the nipples are held very tight. If the mother's milk is not enough, the “hanging milk” phenomenon often occurs (ie, the female rabbit will bring the pups to Outside the nest). When the puppies within 4 days of age are full, their skin is ruddy and the abdomen is tight, and the filling of milk is visible across the belly. The female rabbits are usually breastfed once a day, and the time is usually from 0 to 1 o'clock. The duration of breast-feeding is about 2 minutes each time, and the feeding stops when the time passes. The puppies blinked around the age of 12 days, and the growth speeded up. The demand for milk increased, often chasing females when they were not breastfeeding, but the female rabbits were still nursing once a day. (3) Drinking behavior Water plays an important role in digestion of feed, absorption of digestible substances, excretion of metabolites, and regulation of body temperature. Meat rabbits supplement the loss of water through three ways: drinking water, eating green and juicy feed, and metabolizing water. Meat rabbits usually drink water after eating dry feed, and the amount of drinking water at night is about 60% of the whole day. If there is insufficient drinking water for a long time, the feed intake will decrease, the growth will be slow or stagnant, and the lactating female rabbit will affect the lactation. (4) Excrement behavior The meat rabbit starts eating feces soon after eating the grass material, which is the instinctive response of the rabbit to food. Rabbits excrete two kinds of feces from the anus every day. One is hard feces, which is large in quantity, dry, and rough in surface; the other is soft feces, and the texture is soft, and the surface is delicate and oily. Meat rabbits mainly eat soft feces, and once discharged, they naturally take their food from the anus through the mouth and swallow it with a bit of chewing. Meat rabbits eat soft manure and repeatedly use various nutrients to re-synthesize high-quality protein and water-soluble vitamins, improve the utilization of potassium and sodium, and improve the conversion efficiency. 2 Field of Behavior Hare lives in a settlement on the field, and its scope depends on the food supply in the surrounding environment. They use the glands formed in the submandibular follicles to mark their areas. The male rabbit is marked with urine when leaving the field. In the case of home care, care should be taken to provide permanent shelter for meat rabbits and provide a quiet environment with protective facilities. When a flesh rabbit is stimulated by scaring or smelling, it informs its partner by means of hind legs. When the rabbit is replaced with a rabbit cage, it will smell the new environment and strive to remember the smell of the new environment. The field behavior of the male rabbit is rather special. If it is put into a female rabbit cage, it will be sniffed everywhere. If the female rabbit in the cage has been in heat, after some sniffing, it will chase after the female rabbit. The rabbit did not have heat or estrus, and the female rabbit in the cage attempted to drive off the "invader." However, if the estrus female rabbit is placed in a rabbit cage, male rabbits and female rabbits will soon produce sexual responses. Therefore, females should be caught in male rabbit cages for mating. China Agricultural Network Editor
