Interpretation of Rotary Evaporator Vacuum Distillation Operation Method

Rotary evaporators are an evaporation instrument widely used in laboratories. Suitable for reflow operations, rapid evaporation of large amounts of solvent, concentration of minor components, and reaction processes requiring agitation. The rotary evaporator system can seal the pressure to 400-600 mmHg; the solvent in the distillation flask is heated by a heating bath, the heating temperature can be close to the boiling point of the solvent; and the rotation can be performed at a speed of 50-160 rpm. The solvent is formed into a film to increase the evaporation area. In addition, under the action of a high-efficiency cooler, the hot vapor can be quickly liquefied to accelerate the evaporation rate. It is mainly used for continuous distillation of a large amount of volatile solvents under reduced pressure. In particular, the concentration of the extract and the distillation of the receiving liquid in the chromatographic separation can separate and purify the reaction product. The basic principle of a rotary evaporator is vacuum distillation, that is, under reduced pressure, the distillation flask is continuously rotated as the solvent is distilled.

Rotary evaporator vacuum distillation operation:

Operating procedure
1. Connect the hose to the condensate faucet and connect it to the vacuum pump with a vacuum hose.

2. First inject water into the heating tank. It is best to use pure water, tap water should be placed for 1-2 days before use.

3. Adjust the main unit angle: just loosen the main unit and column connecting screws. The host can be tilted between 0-45 degrees.

4. Turn on the condensate, turn on the power 220V/50Hz, connect the evaporation bottle to the host (do not let go), turn on the vacuum pump to let it reach a certain degree of vacuum and let go.

5. Adjust the height of the main machine: press the pressure bar at the bottom of the heating tank, adjust the curvature to the right and left to reach the appropriate position, and then reach the required height by hand.

6. Turn on the speed switch, the green light is on, adjust the speed knob next to the left side, and the evaporation bottle starts to rotate. Turn on the temperature switch, the green light is on, adjust the temperature adjustment knob on the left side, the heating tank starts the automatic temperature control heating, and the instrument enters the trial run. Once the temperature and vacuum are within the required range, the solvent can be evaporated to the receiving bottle.

7. After the evaporation is completed, first turn off the speed switch and the temperature control switch, press the lower pressure rod to raise the main unit, then close the vacuum pump, and open the vent valve above the condenser to make it open to the atmosphere, remove the evaporation bottle, and the evaporation process ends. .

Precautions
1. The glass parts should be handled gently, washed and dried. 2. The heating tank should be energized after water injection, no dry burning. 3. The grinding equipment used should be evenly coated with a small amount of vacuum grease before installation. 4. The precious solution should be simulated first. Confirm that the instrument is suitable for use after normal use. 5. The precise water temperature is measured directly with a thermometer. At the end of the work, turn off the switch and unplug the power cord.
