Image App helps Los Angeles Children's Hospital patients view their medical imaging data

Release date: 2015-05-27

The Los Angeles Children's Hospital recently announced the availability of the image app ImageInbox for patients. The app will help patients check out their digital versions of their medical image records, including MR, CT, ultrasound, and X-ray.

Providers have been limited by the large file size of medical images, and digital versions of image files cannot be provided to patients or doctors. A commonly used MR file is also 500M. If the patient wants an image file, it is often necessary for the radiologist to burn the image onto a CD, and then they will look it up and give it to the doctor in need.

With the free application ImageInbox, parents of Los Angeles Children's Hospital patients can access image files and send them to other doctors. The image files required by the patient need to be encrypted and stored in the cloud system.

ImageInbox was originally released in August 2014 and was developed by NexGenic. The company's founders are Stephan G. Erberich, director of the Biomedical Information Division at the Saipan Institute of Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, and Marvin D. Nelson, director of the Department of Radiology at the hospital.

In a statement, Nelson explained that the app prevents children from performing repeated imaging tests and reduces radiation exposure.
