Transgenic salt-resistant poplar varieties come out

The first genetically modified salt-resistant poplar tree that can be used for field production, Zhongtian Yang, was successfully cultivated in Dongying, Shandong in mid-February 2004. This is the first salt-tolerant new poplar tree variety obtained in China using genetically modified modern biotechnology. It has found a new way for the greening of saline-alkali land. According to the appraisal committee of Zhang Xinshi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the results of this research have reached the international advanced level in the salt-tolerance transgenic system and the breeding of salt-resistant new varieties. According to reports, Zhongtian Yang is China's first salt-resistant, drought-resistant transgenic Yangshuo (Qingyang School) new species that was successfully developed by the Chinese Academy of Forestry and Shandong Agricultural University over a period of eight years. Experiments show that Populus yangshanensis grows vigorously under 0.4% saline soil, grows normally from 0.4% to 0.6%, grows 2.6 to 2.8 centimeters in diameter per year, and grows from 1.6 to 1.9 cubic meters per mu per year. . Zhongtian Yang is not only resistant to salt and alkali, but also fast growing. At the same time, the skin color is green and delicate, and the tree is beautiful. At present, Zhongtian Yang has obtained the national patent protection rights for new varieties of plants, and the State Forestry Administration has also classified it as a fine variety of afforestation in the saline-alkaline arid regions and focuses on the promotion of new varieties.
